Contemporary art lovers, and those who are interested in the fusion of technology with art, will not want to miss this amazing exhibition of work by one of the most influential artists of the past century. David Hockey: Current is open until 13 March 2017 at NGV International, Melbourne.
This solo exhibition is mind blowing, not only because 1200 works are featured, but because of the breadth and scope of experimentation with new technologies.
David Hockney has mastered the use of iPhone, iPad and video to create unexpected and mesmerizing works and is still going strong at the remarkable age of 79.
You will be transfixed as you move through the galleries displaying iPad digital drawings of still life compositions, self-portraits and large-scale landscapes.
One major highlight is the The Four Seasons, Woldgate Woods – a video work showcasing the changing landscape each season. Nine high definition screens depict the four seasons. It’s fascinating and beautiful all at once.
A 60 metre long gallery is lined with 80 portrait paintings.
Don’t miss the video in which David Hockney speaks personally of his work and life. Such an extraordinary, yet ordinary man. You can’t help but be taken by his warmth and humanity.
This is one of those exhibitions that can be enjoyed by absolutely everyone of any age. It’s fun, it’s colourful, it’s captivating and most of all, it’s a must-see.
