The Westwood Kawakubo blockbuster fashion exhibition now showing at the National Gallery of Victoria is edgy and rebellious to its core. If you’re looking to indulge in a fashion-feast that is re-imaginative, then this is for you. But that’s not to say there isn’t something here for everyone. It’s definitely a must see/experience all can enjoy.

More than 140 designs are on display illustrating the work of these two designers who challenge the conventional sense of dress and fashion. The use of distressed fabrics and new shapes confront all that has gone before.

Both designers pursue sculptural form and unconventional materials to illustrate new ways of thinking and creating clothing.

Pieces from Westwood’s 1986-7 Harris Tweed collection are a real treat for the eye being colourful, playful and a definite nod to royalty.

The exhibition shows how each of the designers question the conventional function and form of clothing and created designs that challenge both purpose and shape.
