Ireland is home to many wonders, and if you happen to be in the south and especially visiting Cork (highly recommended), then a trip to Blarney Castle is a must-do.
Famous for the Blarney stone that is said to give ‘The Gift of Eloquence’ to all who kisses it, Blarney Castle is the major draw card. If you fear heights or narrow stone staircases, then this isn’t for your bucket list. It’s 85 feet up, on the east wall of the battlement! Not for the faint hearted.
But, there’s more here than the legendary stone. Built in 1446 the castle is surrounded by 60 acres of magnificent parklands, gardens, avenues, arboretums and waterways. There’s even a Poison Garden and mysterious caves to explore! (Kids love it). Any time of the year would be a good time to visit.
Blarney House is another attraction and is open to the public during the summer months.
If in need of a little retail therapy head for the nearby Blarney Woollen Mills that has been converted into a fantastic Irish heritage shop. The range on offer is vast. The quality of Aran knitwear is first class and impossible to resist so don’t hold back!
Time to channel the leprechaun within and get going!
Blarney Woollen Mills offer purchasing on line if the suitcase simply won’t hold any more. Click here to find out more.
