If you’ve managed to catch a look at the Chanel Haute Couture Fall 2017 show you will have noticed, with great relief, that classic wearable designs are back in vogue. How refreshing is it to discover that designers are creating for real women in real life situations?
The overall colour palette saw greys and blacks of varying degrees and textures being mixed or matched. An occasional colour featured in subtle tones. Checks and tweeds featured boldly, with leather trimming and buttons that blended in. The ubiquitous bow was a strategically placed enhancement.
This is a collection devoid of fuss. Whimsical touches included feathering worked into flowers that adorned pockets or formed armbands on jackets and coats. Feathers even sprouted from shoulders with sassy effect.
There was a length for every height and leg. Detachable sleeves or double sleeves were a feature along with curved sleeve styling and rounded shoulder lines. Someone has been listening!
The eye makeup, while not for the every day, enhanced the look superbly!
Accessories included the classic shallow crowned boater hats and low block heeled boots. Heel fatigue may soon be a thing of the past. Bags were fabric, clutched and discreet, earrings were the bold buttoned design.
Romance and fantasy were not ignored, chiffon was not abandoned and attention was paid to party dresses and special occasion dressing. Simply swoon worthy.
This is a collection that Jacqueline Kennedy and every style icon worthy of mention would be lining up to order. It’s beautifully constructed, elegant and classy. Let’s hope it heralds a return to sophisticated stylish dressing for the real woman.
