More and more we seek convenience in our lives and what could be more convenient than a pocket or two in our clothing? It’s like having everything at the ready minus the scrambling hunt in the handbag. Oh the sheer freedom that they offer!! The bliss of being hands free.

The smart phone has sent us a message. It wants to be always there for when we need it! Calls, information, photography, shopping, browsing – you name it. We are addicted even though we pretend not to be, and the fashion designers have responded to our mood.

Show me a jacket without a pocket. Such an essential part of any outer wear. Bomber jackets often have a sleeve pocket just for those things that don’t fit anywhere else.

And then there’s the trouser. There was a time when only conventional pockets existed on trousers. Now we have the cargo pants, the safari look and joggers with pockets.

It’s as though pockets have become an essential part of every garment and aren’t we happy?

Recent catwalks have shown evening dresses complete with our new essential adornment. Deep accessible pockets allowing to move about unhindered and hands-free. There’s room for the phone and/or the lipstick, tissues or whatever.
